South AfricaWelcome to Travel Guide 2 South Africa, the site about travel, tourism and vacations in South Africa. The Republic of South Africa (Afrikaans: Republiek van Suid-Afrika) is a country located at the extreme southern tip of the African continent. The country has land borders with Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Lesotho, the last of which is located within an enclave surrounded by South African territory. South Africa has a long coastline on the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, that stretches across three sides (West, South and East) of the country.
As of 2005,
South Africa had an estimated population of 47,432,000. This includes people of a wide range of
racial and cultural groups, including Black African, White, Coloured, Indian and Asian. Because
of this diversity the country is now sometimes called the "Rainbow Nation", a term
originally coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, but later adopted by President
Nelson Mandela.
